BMW 5 Series has been an aspiring Icon since its first model was launched in the market forty years ago; it is a fantastic, wonderful and refined luxury saloon with a good range of excellent engines. If there is a dream car, existed on this earth, then no one else except BMW 5 Series. Words are not worthy to describe this sort of executive saloon. Few cars have a broad range of qualities like BMW 5 series as it is Large, swift, comfortable and luxurious in ride. In my own opinion it surpasses the most popular brand of this house 3 series in all extents. Even strong competition with such as the Audi A6, Mercedes E-Class and Jaguar XF, BMW 5 Series leads the way. BMW 5 Series is equipped with the fastest 4.4 litre 550iM sport petrol engine but the most popular engine of this series is 2.0 litre 520d M sport diesel, in drivers’ opinion. There’s no doubt in it that BMW as an automaker has a very good engine line up especially in diesel engine but the BMW 5 Series feels the most luckiest version in this sense by having the elite machine under its bonnet. The 2.0 litre 520d sport diesel engine is perfect match with this heavy built luxury saloon and gives its best performance. It is available in two gearbox system, manual and automatic. This unit is capable of 0-62m/h sprint in just 7.9 seconds (manual gearbox version) and 7.7 seconds (automatic gearshift system). Both versions of this powerful engine are of 187bhp with maximum speed 147m/h. This powerful engine is worthy not for its speed and pick up but its fuel economy which is impressive, it manages 69m/g and emissions of CO2 at the rate of 109g/kg. It is considered as the best ever engine ever BMW has produced.Diesel Engine at Its Heart
Another diesel giant is 530d. It is a 3.0 litre engine with 261bhp and takes the car from 0-62m/h in just 5.4 seconds. It is made for speed and acceleration, little bit expensive in fuel consumption but overall performance is matchless. The diesel powertrain of BMW 5 Series behaves really well when associated with rear-wheel rather than four-wheel drive. The BMW 5 Series is equipped with eight-speed automatic gearbox which produces a very smooth and balanced ride of this executive saloon.Petrol Engines
In petrol engines line up the BMW 5 series starts from 530i four-cylinder petrol engine which produces 249 bhp. It is a refined shape of 530i with six-cylinder petrol engine. It takes the car from 0-62 m/h in 6.2 seconds. It is good in performance especially for a gentle and mild ride. The BMW 5 series with 540i is made for power and speed it creates 335bhp and in sprint of 0-62m/h, it takes 4.8 seconds. It is quick and smooth in driving. If anyone is just concerned with speed and acceleration along with excellent control then 550i V8 4.4 litre petrol engine is the real alternative of your money which gives you 552bhp of power with a healthy amount of torque. It takes the car from 0-62m/h in just 4.3 seconds. The hybrid engine version of 5 series is equally good
The BMW 5 Series has introduced a petrol-electric BMW330e hybrid engine which gives 249bhp of combined power. The 2.0 litre petrol engine is packed with electric motor. It takes the car from 0-62m/h in 6.2 seconds.Categories
