The trio performs well, overall

The latest Suzuki Vitara is impressive, compact and practical.

The Suzuki was the pioneer in SUV crossover craze with its Vitara, when it made its debut in 1988. Since then nearly 3 million of this classic Vitaras have been produced all over the world, now the maker is expecting the same fame and success from the new Suzuki Vitara. The latest model of Vitara has been transformed from a SUV into more a crossover. In its first look it seems like Range Rover Evoque with the tag of Suzuki. Anyhow the new Suzuki Vitara is a different car to the original Vitara, which was small and rugged.  The latest model of Vitara has lots more rivals than its ancestor, with its crossover style it has direct competition with the Skoda Yeti, Peugeot 2008, Vauxhall Mokka, Renault Captur and Dacia Duster.

With limited but improved engines range the new Suzuki Vitara gives a perfect ride with sporty feelings

The engines range is simple but efficient enough to suit the new Vitara. There is a good trio of engines with a choice of 1.6-litre petrol, 1.6 litre diesel and 1.4-litre turbo petrol. All is well enough in performance. There is a choice in gearbox selection too; the new Vitara is equipped with manual and automatic gearboxes. The five-speed manual gearbox is considered as the best among all. Originally the Vitara is a front-wheel-drive of vehicle but four-wheel drive is also there in higher spec versions.

Petrol Engines

The 1.6-litre petrol performs very effectively under the bonnet of the Suzuki Vitara. It is capable to produce the power of 118bhp. The 1.6litre petrol with two-wheel drive version carries this car from 0-62m/h in 11.5 seconds. Though this is not a high scale performance, but acceptable. In four-by-four versions this petrol unit increases the time of acceleration and takes 12.0 seconds to reach from 0-62m/h and the top speed of this version is 112m/h. The new 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol unit is considered as the best engine in the whole range, but it is reserved for the top spec Vitara-S model. It is made for speed and boost. It is well capable on the motorway and produces the power of 138bhp which is spread more evenly across the rev range, meaning you don’t have to use so many revs to reach the best level of the performance. It takes the Suzuki Vitara form 0-62m/h in 10.1 seconds and the maximum speed of this version is 124m/h.

Vitara Diesel Engines

The 118bhp 1.6litre diesel is quicker and even smoother in response than the 1.6 petrol versions.  Though both have the same top-speed and the sprint time is also same, but in diesel version the Vitara feels comfortable. The diesel model has a softer suspension set-up than the petrol, so it gives more comfort than petrol. It is quieter than petrol also.
